Professionals and students seeking to strengthen their geospatial and water resource management skills are invited to register for the 5-day Short Course on the Application of GIS and Remote Sensing in Water Resource Management, hosted by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) through the ACEWATER III project.
The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training in industry-leading software, including ArcGIS, QGIS, MODFLOW, and ENVI, equipping participants with the skills needed to analyse, monitor, and manage water resources using modern geospatial technologies. Participants will explore topics such as GIS fundamentals, remote sensing, spatial analysis, environmental monitoring, groundwater and surface water quality assessment, Web GIS, and interactive spatial dashboards. The programme also features practical case studies that demonstrate how geospatial technologies support evidence-based planning and decision-making for sustainable water resource management.
Designed for government officials, local authorities, water professionals, environmental practitioners, researchers, students, planners, and policymakers, the course provides valuable technical skills that can be applied across water governance, environmental management, disaster risk reduction, urban and rural planning, mining, and natural resource management.
A unique feature of this programme is its timing. The short course concludes just as the Zimbabwe Water Indaba begins, allowing participants to seamlessly transition from technical training into one of Zimbabwe’s premier water sector conferences. This creates an excellent opportunity to apply newly acquired knowledge, engage with leading researchers and practitioners, network with professionals from across the region, and participate in discussions on emerging challenges and innovations in the water sector. The Zimbabwe Water Indaba will take place from 23–26 September 2026, bringing together stakeholders to discuss:

- Water governance and policy innovations
- Water, food and energy nexus
The research and capacity development activities are undertaken within the framework of the ACEWATER III project, which aims to strengthen skills, innovation, and collaboration across Africa’s water sector through practical training and applied research.
